California Great American Cleanup

During the 2012 Keep America Beautiful (KAB) Great American Cleanup™, our nine California KAB Local Affiliates community partners organized 1986 unique events and contributed over 563,986 volunteer hours removing over 2,116,536 pounds of litter and debris from California’s environment along 1,953 miles of streets and trails, 83 miles of waterways, and 270 acres of parks and open space.

Additionally, over 4,800 pounds of recyclables, 3228 tires, and 60,100 pounds of e-waste were recycled! In order to beautify public space, 30 trees, 360 bulbs, and 1,240 seed packets were planted.

The volunteer efforts of KCB program partners saved the state and local governments of California an estimated $13,208,552 while completing community improvement projects. To support this GAC effort, KCB purchased and received donated cleanup goods that were shipped to local communities, including garbage bags, bottles of hand sanitizer, reusable water bottles, reusable bags and seed packets.

We can’t wait to let you know how great California does in continuing the Great American Cleanup in 2013.
